We like messy art. Well, mostly Kate likes messy art and I go along with it. Kate having seen the work of Holton Rower was the inspiration here. Paint is poured cup after cup onto a wooden structure on a YouTube video, Tall Painting.
We tried to recreate the experience, first the children constructed a tower made of cardboard boxes and masking tape. We set it up next to a picnic table so they could reach the top and put down a big tarp under it all. They lined up and poured their cups of paint on our tall boxes. It was messy, some kids poured and others just watched.
